DOT increases fines for federal trucking violations across the board

This week, the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) announced that they will be increasing fines for all commercial vehicle violations. On Monday, November 26, DOT announced that they will be raising fines for all federal trucking related violations, effective immediately. The fine increase is intended to keep up with inflation and is required by the Federal Civil Penalties Inflation Adjustment Act Improvements Act of 2015. The percent change of the fine increase is 1.02041, which means that truckers will be paying hundreds of dollars more for most violations than they paid last year.
