Driver killed after car hits tractor-trailer stopped on side of I-295

A man was killed Monday when his car crashed at full-speed into the back of a tractor-trailer stopped on the shoulder of I-295 in Mercer County, police said.

The identity of the driver was not released pending notification of his family, State Police said.

The man was driving north in a Chevy Cruze between exits 60 and 61 in Hamilton Township around noon when he struck the tractor-trailer that had pulled onto the I-295 shoulder.

The man was pronounced dead on the scene. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Police said the driver of the tractor trailer was present at the time of the incident. Drivers can expect some slowing around the incident, but no major traffic delays were caused, police said.
