Interstate ramp back open after semi trailer damages guardrail

The ramp from I-480 eastbound to I-29 northbound is back open as of 10:50 a.m. Iowa Department of Transportation crews made temporary repairs to the damaged guardrail and set up a safety barrier. According to district engineer Scott Schram, the overpass is safe for public use until a contractor can come in and make permanent repairs.

UPDATE, 8:20 p.m., An overpass will be closed overnight because of semi losing a load of steel. According to a police report, the driver of the tractor- trailer hit a guardrail, which caused the steel of the truck to unfold in the middle of the road. The driver was not injured, and neither were other motorists. If you normally travel this route into Council Bluffs, you need to use a different route. Law enforcement recommends going south on Interstate 29 to Ninth Avenue, passing under Interstate 29 and then turning left onto I-29 northbound.
