NY trucker charged in 2016 crash that killed elderly woman in Lower Macungie

A New York truck driver has been charged in a 2016 multivehicle crash on Route 222 in Lower Macungie Township that killed an elderly woman, Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin announced Friday. Gary Pellegrino, 67, of White Plains, N.Y., allegedly rear-ended a line of stopped vehicles on the afternoon of Dec. 5, 2016, causing a chain-reaction that injured four people and killed an 81-year-old woman, Martin said in a news release. Pellegrino was charged with one count each of homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, and one count each of reckless driving, careless driving, following too closely and driving at unsafe speeds. He also faces seven counts of reckless endangerment. He had not been arraigned as of Friday morning.
