Officer hit while directing traffic after multi-vehicle crash involving dump truck in Va.

A police officer was hit by a car while directing traffic after a crash between a box truck, dump truck, and a car on Route 28 near Interstate 66 early Thursday morning. Police say the officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to an area hospital. Additionally, all three drivers in the accident suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The dump truck overturned in the collision and landed on the car with the driver inside. Power lines were knocked into the road and traffic signals were not working as a result of the crash, according to police. Fairfax County Police said the accident shut down all southbound lanes during the early morning rush hour.  Shortly before 5 a.m., police reported the crash and stated that all lanes were shut down. The northbound lanes were quickly reopened but the southbound lanes on Route 28 remained closed.  Around 6:30 a.m., police announced all lanes reopened on the busy route. But roughly an hour later, Fairfax County Police announced the southbound lanes were once again shut down after confirming the officer was hit.
