MANSFIELD – A driver drove his tractor-trailer off U.S. 30 Monday through the guardrails, traveling down a hill onto Crestline Road below and striking a utility pole. Just after 6 a.m., the eastbound tractor-trailer, carrying a large roll of paper, went off of US 30 just east of the Bowman Street Road bridge and struck a utility pole near the Red Lantern Tavern. Houses line the short street.
The driver, Jason Bouchard, 37,of Quincy, Michigan, who was not hurt, said a motorist cut him off, so he took action to avoid a crash. He was cited for failure to maintain reasonable control, according to the police report. The truck remained upright and his load intact after hitting a large pine tree, which helped him avoid striking a nearby residence.
Mansfield Fire Department was on scene too. Firefighter Chris Tager said he has seen trucks come down the exact same spot before. The News Journal covered a crash at the same spot not long ago where a truck carrying fresh butchered meat left U.S. 30. FirstEnergy was on scene around 11 a.m. restoring power lines to the area that the semi truck knocked down. A tow truck and Mansfield police remained at the scene.
