The impact of the crash crushed a barrel that the truck was hauling containing cumene hydroperoxide. The Massachusetts State Police say that the chemical is leaking from the truck. State hazmat teams have been asked to respond to the crash site. Police say that the chemical is an irritant and can become combustible if exposed to heat or certain materials.

No injuries have been reported.

Officials have evacuated homes and businesses within a 300 foot perimeter of the crash site. Though the height of the bridge is marked at 12’6″, authorities say that truck strikes are common. The incident is still under investigation. Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
