As many as 40-50 cars were involved in a massive pileup on Interstate 81, south of Syracuse late Friday afternoon, the Onondaga County Sheriff says. A sudden white out and poor road conditions are to blame for the crash that shutdown both sides of the highway for at least an hour. The pileup started with a two car crash and then spiraled from there. The highway was shut down between exit 14 Tully and exit 15 LaFayette as crews worked to clear the scene. Cars and trucks could be seen crashed and spread out along the highway in several clusters. Some vehicles went off the road and into the median.
