Video/News: Elkhart Police chase ends in crash, arrest

A 9-1-1 call leads on a Elkhart police chase that ends up with a car crashing into the wheels of semi truck. It happened just before 12:45 at Nappanee and Beadsley. Police tell us a small child, a woman and man were in the car. The man was driving – but why he sped off has not released just yet. When officers arrived the man took off from the area of Nappanee and Bristol, but he didn’t get too far. That’s when officers swarmed the area and took that driver into custody.  Police tell us their suspect and the child were taken to the hospital – and both should be okay. Traffic was shut down while the vehicles were moved. The crash ended up busting one of the rims on the semi. The truck driver said he’s never experienced anything like this before… and that the suspect had no time to run. “He had no choice because by the time the police got up to him they were still in the car. The police had their guns drawn on them… they both crawled out of the driver side door. They had their hands up… They surrendered right away,” Craig Leonard said. “If you run from the police they could’ve killed somebody, anybody could have gotten hurt or died. An innocent person, and to me, it just ain’t worth it,” he added. Charges are expected for the driver of the car. Police are still investigation.
