Video/News: Strong winds cause a semi-truck to slide across a icy highway

Terrifying video footage shows the moment strong winds and ice caused a semi-truck to slide across lanes during a winter storm in Canada. The scary footage was shot by a couple headed to Lethbridge from Calgary on February 13. ‘This is what we ran into on the way home from Calgary and a lot of vehicles in the ditch!’ the caption read. In the video, a man films as he drives slowly behind a semi-truck. The truck has its hazard lights on and is creeping down the icy highway.

‘That’s so scary,’ the female passenger in the car says. It’s not clear if the truck driver ever pulled over or stopped. The video also shows a couple of cars trapped in ditches along the highway. Last month, southern Alberta was hit with a major snow storm that left much of the area under a wind and blowing snow warning. Conditions were so bad that parts of Highway 3 and Highway 1 were shut down. Police said in a news release that it closed Highway 3 between Fort Macleod and the British Columbia border because of ‘extremely poor winter driving conditions’, adding that they responded to multiple crashes. The nasty winter weather has yet to release its grip on Calgary and the surrounding areas. According to the Calgary Herald, a snowfall warning was lifted Friday but weather experts are still cautioning drivers to be safe.
