A semi-tractor trailer overturned on southbound I-75 at the Busch Road overpass Thursday, dumping two large-diameter concrete pipes onto the highway shoulder and closing one lane to traffic. Michigan State Police, Birch Run firefighters, Mike’s Towing, and ABC Towing were at the scene to direct traffic and remove the truck, operated by Northern Concrete Pipe Inc.
The driver was transported from the scene in an MMR ambulance. As of 11 a.m., crews worked to tow the mangled cab of the jackknifed truck, which came to rest pointed northbound on the southbound shoulder.
The two pipes remained, blocking the shoulder and right lane of the highway, with one pipe resting against the northern supports of the Busch Road overpass. An escort truck carrying an “Oversize load” banner was parked on the shoulder a few hundred feet south of the overpass. The condition of the truck driver is unknown.
