Video: Police identify truck driver, struck and killed by his own tractor-trailer at I-95 rest stop

Video released Tuesday showed a tractor-trailer as it rolled on to a busy I-95 from a rest area gas station Monday afternoon. The incident happened near Exit 9 in Darien on the southbound side of highway. The incident involved three other vehicles and resulted in a crash and a minor injury. The video, released by the Connecticut Department of Transportation, shows the tractor-trailer truck pulled up to the gas pumps at the I-95 Southbound service plaza. Shortly after the driver exited the cab, the truck started rolling away from the pump. Police said he neglected to engage the brakes. It continued rolling and accelerating on its own out of the gas station, flattening a guard rail and rolling onto the highway, where it collided with other vehicles. As emergency vehicles worked at the scene, the driver is seen walking to where the truck had been, and then running over to the crash scene. The driver was issued an infraction for failure to leaving a vehicle on a highway without setting the emergency brake. One of the other drivers was issued a ticket for driving with a suspended license.Police are investigating after they say a tractor-trailer driver died Saturday after they say he was struck by his own truck at a rest stop off I-95 South in Howard County.
Maryland State Police say they received a call just after 7 a.m. Saturday morning, at the I-95 rest stop, just south of the Patuxent River Bridge. Investigators say 64-year-old Jose Ngoran Amoa, 64, from Laurel, Md. was struck and killed after he was caught between two trucks — his own tractor-trailer and a dump truck he had parked behind. Investigators say Amoa got out of his tractor-trailer and was walking between the two trucks when his tractor-trailer began to drift forward into the dump truck and he became wedged between the two. Police say Amoa was pronounced dead at the scene. Maryland State Police say they found Amoa failed to set the parking brake on his tractor-trailer before getting out of the truck, which led to it drifting forward. Police say the crash is still under investigation.
