Jackknifed tractor-trailer shuts down Interstate 481 south in DeWitt

DEWITT, N.Y. — A tractor-trailer jackknifed early Friday on snowy Interstate 481 south, shutting down the highway in DeWitt.

The tractor-trailer crashed at 4:14 a.m. on I-481 south near Jamesville Road. Property damage was reported, Onondaga County 911 dispatch logs show. The southbound side of the highway is closed at Jamesville Road (Exit 2). It could remain closed for hours, reported the state Department of Transportation.

The DeWitt Police Department responded to the crash. The closure has slowed southbound traffic more than a mile north of the Jamesville Road exit. Interstate 481 and other major highways in the Syracuse area are slick with snow and ice. It was snowing and about 21 degrees in the Syracuse area around the time of the crash, National Weather Service records show.
