Video/News: Name of 17-year-old killed in semi wreck released

Troopers say the 17-year-old killed in this wreck is Britteny Shaffer. She died at Grant Medical Center in Columbus at 4:03 p.m Friday. She was transported there from Marietta Memorial Hospital. Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers say the 17-year-old girl involved in this accident has died.

The female driver of a car that rear-ended a tractor-trailer on Route 7 at Blue Knob Road Friday morning remains hospitalized, authorities say. A spokesman for the Marietta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol says the 17-year-old girl from Belpre was taken by ambulance to Marietta Memorial Hospital after the crash, which happened about 8 a.m.  Authorities have not released details on her condition, but they say her injuries appeared to be life-threatening. Troopers say the girl’s car hit the semi from behind while the truck was slowing down in the northbound lane to turn right onto Blue Knob Road. The driver of the truck, Joshua Tukes, 39, of Opa Locka, Fla., was taken by ambulance to the Belpre campus of Marietta Memorial with non life-threatening injuries. The accident briefly shut down Route 7 while emergency crews worked at the scene. The road has been re-opened. The Warren Township Volunteer Fire Department and Portsmouth Ambulance Service responded to the scene.  The Highway Patrol is handling the investigation. First responders are at the scene of a collision at Route 7 and Blue Knob Road involving a passenger vehicle and a tractor-trailer. A spokesman for the Ohio State Highway Patrol says the crash happened about 8 a.m. when the vehicle rear-ended the semi in the northbound lane. The spokesman did not have information about possible injuries. One northbound lane is currently open to traffic.
