Wrong way driver involved in crash with tractor trailer in Meriden

A wrong-way driver was involved in a serious crash with a tractor trailer on Interstate 691 in Meriden. According to state police, it happened on the eastbound side in the area of exit 11 shortly after 3 a.m. on Monday.

State police identified the woman who was seriously hurt as 34-year-old Meghan Claire Perrin of Meriden. She was behind the wheel of a Honda CR-V with and had two passengers identified as 42-year-old Micah Newton and 38-year-old Matthew Conklin, both of New York. Newton and Conklin were not hurt. The driver of the tractor trailer was also not hurt. Investigators said Perrin was traveling westbound on the eastbound side in the left lane and veered into the path of the tractor trailer. They described the crash has being head-on. Perrin was transported by the Life Star emergency helicopter to Hartford Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The crash closed the highway at exit 11. However, it has since reopened. Troopers said they had detours in place at exit 10. Troopers expected the road to remain closed for several hours as investigators worked on the scene. That work was completed shortly after 8 a.m.

They were seen there with flashlights and taking pictures. The case remains under investigation.
